THE end is finally in sight for a five-year project to upgrade a notorious roundabout.

Balfour Beatty began repairs to the A13/A130 junction of Sadlers Farm roundabout in 2017 after Essex County Council discovered a series of defects following a £60 million remodelling of the junction.

Works will include the replacement of bridge bearings and structural repairs on the Sadlers Farm and the Sadlers Hall bridges as well as fencing and barrier improvements and surfacing works on the A130.

Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford said: "After some five years of endless stop start on this project, it is good to hear that the end is finally in sight.

“Hopefully, my constituents and others across South Essex will be able to drive through Sadlers Farm unimpeded by speed restrictions and endless traffic cones- so the sooner the work is completed the better."

Basildon Councillor Kerry Smith said: "It's fantastic news that the work is going to be completed at long last.

"The sceptic in me, and speaking as a Basildon motorist, I just hope that this really is the last of the works there as we have suffered with this for far too long now."

While work is ongoing, diversions and lane closure will remain in place.

Traffic will be diverted west bound on the A13 to Pitsea Interchange and then will return  east bound on the A13, to link back up with the A130.

Drivers will leave the A13 east bound at Pitsea exit slip road wth a diversion in place via Southmayne, Eastmayne, A127 to Fairglen Interchange, followed by A1245 South to A130 Rayleigh Spur RBT.

The A13 entry slip road from Sadlers Farm roundabout will be closed while the A130 will be closed heading east at Rayleigh Spur roundabout.

Another diversion will be in place via A1245 North to A127 Neverden Interchange, Southmayne and Eastmayne to Pitsea Interchange.
