A TEENAGER with two “curves in her spine” could be forced to spent the rest of her life in a wheelchair unless £15,000 is raised for “vital and urgent” surgery.

Aimee Ellis, 13, has been diagnoses with severe scoliosis but her family have been told the condition is too severe to be fixed with a brace and the youngster must undergo an operation.

The teenager, from Southend, has fainted “continuously” for the past two years, as well as feeling numbness in her legs and arms which can cause her to fall over.

After regular trips to her GP, and then a chiropractor, she was told that she could have scoliosis.

However, the family claim they were told it was a 12 to 18-month wait to see a specialist.

After seeing Aimee in pain every day, her mum Tracy Ellis paid for a private appointment where the youngster was told she needed surgery urgently or could face using a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

Tracy said: “It started back in November 2021 when she started to continuously pass out

“She then complained of continuous back pain, where in July, the doctors said it is possible scoliosis.

“After Christmas, and still waiting, we went back to the doctors where they marked her case as urgent, but said it will be 12 to 18 months until she sees a specialist.

“We couldn’t wait that long, so I decided to pay to go and see the UK Scoliosis Clinic in Chelmsford privately.

“They confirmed she had severe scoliosis, and told me, to my shock, that a brace isn’t possible, and surgery would be required.

“It is horrible for me to see her in pain every day. She is a trooper, she doesn’t moan, but you can see she is in pain.

“We have been told she needs surgery quickly or she could face being in a wheelchair.”

Aimee has two spinal curves - one at the top and one at the bottom. The spine is even starting to twist, pushing onto her lung.

For urgent private surgery the family need to raise £15,000.

Her mum, and her dad Grant Ellis, alongside their friends, will be taking on a charity walk from Gunners Park to Gloucester Park on March 4 to try and raise funds.
