A TEENAGER was stabbed twice during a violent attack in a supermarket car park.

A police cordon was put in place Friday night surrounding the car park of Asda, in Rawreth Lane, Rayleigh, following the incident at around 10pm.

Essex Police have confirmed a young teenager suffered two stab wounds during the incident and that a 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

James Newport, councillor for Downhall and Rawreth ward, described the news as a huge shock.

He said: “Any incident like this is concerning. I hope that the injures weren’t serious, and the victim is OK.

“I recently had a meeting, where I heard our district, has lowest crime rate in Essex.

“So, it is worrying to hear this.

“Hopefully it is an isolated incident, and we don’t hear any more of these types of crimes.

“It is understandably worrying for parents to hear this too.”

Residents on social media praised Asda staff for “jumping in” during the incident, with many claiming the workers helped separate the youths before police arrived.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We were called to Rawreth Lane in Rayleigh shortly before 10pm on Friday, February 17, following reports of a man being assaulted.

“The victim was taken to hospital with two stab wounds. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“A cordon was put in place for a short while.

“Officers arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

“He has since been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.”

Asda confirmed an incident had taken place when contacted by the Echo, but stated the supermarket would not comment any further in relation to the incident.
