Police officers found a puppy while carrying out a drugs raid in Basildon.
Officers carried out a section 23 misuse of drugs act warrant at an address in the town on Monday.
It followed intelligence provided to the force by members of the public as well as officer enquiries.
Cannabis plants were found at the address.
Police later arrested a man in connection with the incident.
While at the site officers also found a puppy which had no owner.
In a statement the force said: "We also came across this cute little puppy at the address. He unfortunately does not have an owner so has been given a lovely temporary home for the time being.
"He is being very well looked after and is hoping to have a permanent home soon."
