Two people have been arrested after a stolen Land Rover crashed into a building and burst into flames in Benfleet.

Police received a report of a Land Rover Discovery having been stolen from the street outside an address on Canvey shortly before 12.45am this morning (February 27).

As a result of quick enquiries, police officers were able to locate the vehicle.

The Land Rover then failed to stop when requested but officers followed the vehicle at a safe distance.

During the police chase, the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a building in Pound Lane, North Benfleet.

The occupants then left the vehicle and it caught alight, spreading to the building.

Police at the scene ensured people in the building were able to get to safety.

Firefighters were called to the scene and dealt with the blaze.

After a short search of the area, a teenage boy who had been injured was found. He is being treated for his injuries and is under arrest on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Another vehicle suspected of being involved, a Ford CMAX, was also identified.

Following a number of enquiries, the CMAX was located, and a woman was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and drug driving.
