A POPULAR south Essex floating restaurant has been submerged for more than two months after it started “sinking” just days before Christmas.

Customers were left stunned back in December when the Miller and Carter restaurant at Lakeside Shopping Centre started to sink into the lake.

This week an urban explorer decided to take a look inside to see the current condition of the submerged restaurant.

Urban Banana, who wishes to not be named and is referred to as Banana, set up his channel two years ago as a way of “sharing mystical adventures with others”.

He has always been an “explorer” and enjoyed searching the abandoned world as an escape from everyday life.

Banana said he had never been to the Miller and Carter site before it sank but had a calling to visit the restaurant since it began to sink.

He was expecting the interior to be a mess yet what he discovered was a restaurant set out and ready for customers to return.

Banana said: “You could feel the ship was sat at a strange angle and this made walking feel very strange in some sections.

“However, the restaurant was still set out and ready for customers. A Christmas tree was also still up and decorations was placed elegantly around the ship.

“Fridges and shelves were also full.

“The lower deck was submerged with just the tips of the tables protruding above the water.

“Chairs and glasses and other items down there were floating in the green waters.

“The only negative was that the ship absolutely stunk of putrefying animal flesh that you could almost taste in the air.”

Bosses said Miller and Carter sunk back in December due to “structural issues”.

The video also show that most of the food still on site was covered in mould.

Banana added: “The explore was a great success and exceeded my expectations as I wasn’t expecting it to be in such good condition considering the situation.

“I left the ship with a sense of excitement, inspiration, and clarity.

“I would love to see the ship floating once again and back in use.”
