PARENTS and their children in south Essex really raised the bar this year with an incredible array of World Book Day outfits.

Youngsters dressed up as their favourite book characters on Thursday in the charity event held every year in the UK since 1998.

The Echo's special World Book Day school supplement is on sale tomorrow (March 7). The pull-out includes photos of pupils (and a few teachers) in creative costumes from 49 south Essex schools.
