Schools in south Essex are set to be affected by teacher strikes this week with a number of schools closing.

Teachers will walk out on Wednesday and Thursday in a row over pay and funding for the education system.

Large numbers of Essex teachers are set to join demonstrations in London on Wednesday.

Here are the south Essex schools set to shut tomorrow, according to the Essex County Council website:

  • Basildon Lower Academy - Open for students in year 9 only. Remote learning for students in Year 7 and 8.
  • Basildon Upper Academy - Open for students in year 11, 12 and 13 only. Online remote learning for students in year 10.
  • Beauchamps High School in Wickford - Years 7 to 9 receiving remote lessons at home
  • Castle View School on Canvey - Year 7 and year 11 are on site as normal. Years 8 to 10 are completing their learning using Teams.
  • Glenwood School in Benfleet - The school will be partially open for learners with prior agreement with families.
  • Grange Primary School in Wickford - Fully closed to pupils.
  • Greensward Academy in Hockley - Partially closed, details given to parents.
  • Kents Hill Infant Academy in South Benfleet - Remote learning provided.
  • Mayflower High School in Billericay - The school will be open to years 11, 12 and 13 along with vulnerable students and children of critical workers. Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 will be working remotely.
  • Oakfield Primary School in Wickford - Fully closed, remote learning will be provided.
  • Rayleigh Primary School in Rayleigh - Online learning set for closed classes.
  • St Anne Line Catholic Infant School in Basildon - Four teachers are NEU members therefore four classes across KS1.
  • The King John School in Benfleet - Year 10, 11 and 13 in school, vulnerable students are invited into school.
  • The Sweyne Park School in Rayleigh - Open for vulnerable children and children of critical workers children as well as pupils due to sit exams/assessments.
  • Westwood Academy in Hadleigh - Closed to all pupils.
  • Wickford Primary School - Partially closing classes where staff have not confirmed attendance. All pupils, including vulnerable and those of critical workers, attending other classes.
  • Winter Gardens Academy on Canvey - Nursery is open. Remote learning in place.
