THRILL seekers in Edwardian times would enjoy climbing a curious steel structure to enjoy views over Southend.

This photo shows Warwick’s revolving tower on Eastern Esplanade in 1902 when passengers paid for the chance to go to the top by a revolving lift.

It was taken from a book by Stephen Pewsey and is dated 1904. The book states that Warwick’s revolving tower was demolished the following year.

The tower was built by Warwick’s Revolving Tower Company Limited and named after its inventor, Thomas Warwick.

There were versions of the observation towers in Great Yarmouth, Scarborough, Morecambe and Cleethorpes.
