Rail enthusiasts are set to enjoy TWO luxurious steam train journeys cross country for special day-trips from Southend.

The Steam Dreams Rail Company has announced its newest days trips departing from Essex locations this year - with explorations departing from Shoebury.

Day-trippers will travel in vintage train carriages such as Pullman coaches, and can choose between three classes with packages which include a traditional breakfast and evening four-course meal.

The Mayflower 61306 will be heading to Portsmouth Harbour on Wednesday May 31, picking up passengers from Shoebury at 6.50am and stopping off again at Southend East and Southend Central.

The train will also collect trip-goers from Barking before heading out through the picturesque Surrey Hills to join the Portsmouth Direct line.

It will arrive in Portsmouth at 12.50pm where guests are free to explore the city at leisure

After the break, the homeward journey departs Portsmouth Harbour at 5.10pm and arrives back at Shoeburyness at 11.20pm.

The Britannia 70000 will be heading to York from Shoebury in another day-trip on Saturday September 23.

It will be picking up passengers from Shoebury and stopping off again at Southend Central before continuing its journey onto York.

Prices for the experience start from £165 per person, with the top price for Pullman style dining costing £350.
