FAULTS to underground power cables have left homes in two south Essex postcode areas without power for several hours throughout yesterday evening and this morning.

Two power cuts have been reported - in Leigh-on-Sea and South Ockendon.

The UK Power Networks website confirms a fault on an underground electricity cable is the root cause of both issues.

The power cut in Leigh-on-Sea, which affects properties in the SS9 2 postcode area, was first reported just after 2.30pm yesterday.

UK Power Networks confirmed on their website: "We became aware of a power cut at 14:31."

The power cut in South Ockendon, which affects properties in the RM15 6 postcode area, was first reported just after 5.30pm yesterday, with UK Power Networks confirming they "became aware of a power cut at 17:37".

Statements regarding both incidents advise: "We’re sorry for any disruption this may have caused you.

We didn’t know in advance there would be a power cut but now that we know, our teams will do everything they can to get your power back quickly."

It is currently unknown when power will be restored to both areas.
