A MAN sustained a head injury and is being treated in hospital after an alleged armed robbery at his family home this morning.

Police are investigating after a family were threatened during an alleged armed robbery at a home in Laburnam Drive, Corringham this morning.

The alleged incident was reported to police just after 10am.

It was reported that an armed man had entered a home and threatened the family inside.

One of the occupants was able to leave the home and alert the police to the incident. The intruder then left the home.

Officers quickly arrived at the scene and carried out a search of the area but said no one matching the description of the suspect could be located.

No arrests have been made at this stage and police are following a number of lines of enquiry.

A significant policing presence will remain in the area throughout the day as the investigation continues.

DI Mark Gridley, who is leading the investigation, said: “We’re making good progress since this incident was first reported to us this morning. Most importantly, the family are now safe and they are being supported.

“I would now urge anyone living in Laburnam Drive, Gifford Cross Avenue and Gifford Cross Road who has CCTV or doorbell footage of the area to get in contact with us. Specifically, we’d like to see footage taken in the area between 8am and 1pm.

“We believe we have identified a man of interest who was in the area at the time.

"He was wearing a long green jacket, grey trainers and a beanie-style hat.”

Anyone with information on the man or footage of him should let police know by submitting a report on the Essex Police website or by using the online Live Chat service available Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 10am-9pm.
