WITH the official opening date of the Wendy’s fast-food store at the Northern Gateway set for later this year, foodies have a lot to be excited about.

The American chain is offering its classic menu staples, as well as some special menu items specifically catered to UK punters.

The chain is due to open in Colchester in May.

Here is everything you can expect from the new Wendy’s restaurant.

Firstly, punters will find the chain's burger patties are square, instead of a conventional circle patty.

When ordering a quarter-pounder meal, customers will have to ask for a Dave’s Combo, in reference to the chain’s founder, Dave Thomas.

The hungrier customers can order a Dave’s Double Combo, a double quarter pounder, or Dave’s Triple Combo, for a whopping three-quarters of a pound’s worth of beef in a triple stack of patties.

Specially tailored to UK customers, foodies can order a Chicken Club Sandwich, which will give them a fried chicken cutlet, with crispy bacon and smashed avocado.

Other options include a simple chicken burger, a spicy chicken burger and a healthier, grilled chicken burger.

Vegetarian diners can enjoy an array of colourful salads or their staple bean burger.

The Curry Bean Burger, especially designed for UK tastebuds, is a black bean and chickpea patty, with Monterrey Jack cheese, salad and curry mayo on a toasted bun.

Early birds will be able to sample the restaurant’s breakfast menu, which includes an array of breakfast on either a muffin or croissant bun, with protein options of sausage, eggs, bacon. Regular fries are substituted for seasoned breakfast wedges.

Those with a sweet tooth will also be able to savor the brand’s renowned ‘Frosty’, which isn’t quite a milkshake, nor ice cream, but is delicious nevertheless, available in either chocolate or vanilla.

The site is one of the 30 Wendy's locations across the United Kingdom, including 13 brick-and-mortar restaurants. The fast food giant hopes to have 45 sites across the United Kingdom by the end of 2023.

The new restaurant has already begun recruiting staff, offering staff members competitive salaries, employee benefits and opportunities for growth.

The Colchester venue will boast a drive-thru, which will encompass a grand 200,000 square feet.
