A MAN was trapped in his vehicle following a crash on a country road.

The fire and ambulance services were called to Hackmans Lane in Purleigh at 9.18am following a crash involving one vehicle.

A man in his 70s was trapped in his car and freed by both the fire and ambulance crews.

Crews from Maldon Fire Station and South Woodham Ferrers Fire Station were in attendance.

A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: “On-call crews were called to a road traffic collision involving one car.

“On arrival firefighters reported that a man in his 70s was trapped in his car and worked with the ambulance service to release him.

“The casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service.”

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.18am to a road traffic collision on Hackmans Lane in Purleigh.

"An ambulance, ambulance officer, a response car from the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and the Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the scene.

"One patient, an adult man, was transported to Broomfield Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
