NIGHTCLUB bosses have stressed guest safety is a “priority” after an investigation was launched following an alleged spiking incident in Colchester.

The incident, which occurred at the Walkabout premises at the weekend, seriously affected a reveller on a night out.

In a post on social media which has been shared more than 1,000 times, the victim shared her terrifying experience.

The post from the victim, who lives in the Harwich area. said she was “kicked out for being too drunk”.

She said she had “no feelings in her legs and no control over what their body was doing”, adding it was “one of the most horrible things to ever happen to me”.

It is understood the victim was then admitted to hospital for eight to ten hours, was put on drips, had blood taken and had medication to flush the toxins out of their body.

A spokesperson for Walkabout Colchester said: “Guest safety is our priority, and we take any allegations of drink-spiking very seriously. 

“We are assisting the police in their inquiries and have provided CCTV footage from Saturday, April 8.

“We have also reached out to the guest and her family to gain any further insight.”

Bosses also say they are “continually reviewing safety and security procedures”.

The statement continued: “Within Walkabout we continually review our safety and security procedures as well as operating enhanced safety measures including searches on entry, publicising the 'Ask for Angela' scheme in our toilets and providing free drinks covers for our guests. 

“Walkabout is accredited by the Best Bar None Scheme and has actively engaged in staff training regarding drink spiking in collaboration with the Colchester Bid.”

The latest incident comes after a string of reported spikings rocked Colchester in 2021.

Speaking about the most recent spiking report, a spokesman for Essex Police added: “At this stage, no report has been made to us about this incident. However, we are aware of a social media post circulating describing an incident which we feel should be investigated.

"We have attempted to make contact with the victim in this case and would urge her to contact us to report the incident.

"We have worked with the Colchester Community Safety Partnership and have engaged with the venue mentioned in the social media post."
