An award-winning musical group has announced famous singer Michael Ball as its latest celebrity patron.

The Music Man Project, which is based in Southend, focuses on people with learning disabilities and has performed across the country including at the Royal Albert Hall and London Palladium.

The late Sir David Amess , who was tragically killed in October 2021, also supported the organisation for more than a decade before becoming its president.

Ball is a renowned singer and actor who notably starred in the original London production of Les Miserables.

In response to his appointment, Ball said: “I am delighted to become a patron of The Music Man Project. As soon as I met The Music Man Project, I knew I wanted to be involved.

“The work that David Stanley and his team do is truly inspiring. Music transforms lives. I look forward to being a cheerleader for everything The Music Man Project does. Together, we will create magic!”

As part of his new role, Ball will be taking on several duties related to The Music Man Project.

This includes supporting the need for inclusive music education and performance opportunities to people with learning disabilities.

Ball will also be an advocate for the importance of music in the lives of people who have disabilities.

David Stanley, Founder of The Music Man Project, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Michael Ball as our new patron. His dedication to the arts and charity work makes him a perfect fit for our organisation. We are honoured to have his support.

“With Michael on board, we are excited to continue expanding our reach and impact, bringing the joy of music to even more people around the country.”

This is not the first major coup that the Music Man Project secured in recent months.

In February 2023 founder David Stanley received a nomination for Freedom of the City.

At the time, he said: “This community has been part of my life for nearly 25 years, and I would share the honour with the exceptional students from the original Music Man Project in Southend who inspire and motivate me every day.”
