CHILDREN were found to be using drugs and in possession of drugs near two schools.
Arrests have also been made after two people were believed to be concerned in the supply of drugs during a patrol of a busy town.
Officers were patrolling South Woodham Ferrers on Thursday and Friday when they arrested two people and took several children home to their parents after seeing them in the possession of drugs.
Officers said “the relevant referrals will take place”.
One individual who was remanded is expected to stay in police custody until today, when the Magistrates Courts reopen.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “The Maldon Town Team have been patrolling the South Woodham Ferrers area today and yesterday.
“It didn't take us long... two were arrested for concerned in the supply of drugs and possession with intent to supply.
“One individual has been charged and remanded and will likely spend the Coronation weekend with us until Tuesday when the magistrates' courts are open.
“We have been patrolling the area extensively today. We unfortunately came across several children who were in possession of a small amount of drugs and were using the drugs near two local schools.
“This is not acceptable. We have a duty of care in regards to children using drugs and they were taken home to their parents. The relevant referrals will take place.
“Do you know where your children are and what they are doing?”
“Do you have information about drug dealing? Let us know at www.essex.police.uk.”
