A popular Peaky Blinders-themed bar in Chelmsford city centre has been forced to shut after a man was injured in an assault outside.

The incident in the early hours of May 29 has forced The Garrison Tavern, in Chelmsford High Street to be closed after Essex Police asked for its licence to be suspended on the grounds of “serious crime”.

However the bar has since appealed and a hearing is due to be held today (June 6). A full hearing of the licence suspension will take place before June 27. Representations must be made before June 16.

Essex Police confirmed no arrests have been made.
