HARD-hit families struggling to cope in the cost-of-living crisis are set to get some much-needed relief thanks to a “baby bank” in Westcliff.

Summercourt Family Centre, in Salisbury Avenue, will be running the service on the last Friday of every month in a bid to provide necessities to families that need them both.

The Bibs and Bobs baby bank allows families with children aged up to five-years-old five to select items, such as clothes, shoes and toys and take them home free of charge.

Helen Boyd, councillor responsible for children’s services, education and learning, said: “Bibs and Bobs is a vital resource that provides support to families who need essential items for their fast-growing tots, and helps to ease the financial pressures of parenthood to those experiencing hardship.

“As well as finding the necessities, families will also be greeted with politeness from non-judgmental staff who understand the difficulties and pressure of family life, regardless of personal circumstances.

Booking is required and appointments are available between 10am and 2pm on the days the baby bank is open.

As well as providing for families, it is an opportunity to recycle no longer needed items that still have some life in them.

Donations can only be taken on Thursdays between 10am and 2pm at the centre, and the bank will gladly take them to help another family.

There are more than 200 baby banks across the UK, with some already running in Braintree, Tendring and Billericay.

Referrals come from local nurseries, schools, GPs and community centres.

Mrs Boyd added: “If you believe you or anyone you know could make use of the service make sure to book an appointment.

“Or if you can donate any much-needed items, please get in touch to help local families.”
