A SEVEN-year-old girl has been hailed a hero after she phoned 999 when her mum suddenly collapsed at home.

Ava Rose, 7, was presented with a certificate by ambulance workers last night after leaping into action in her Hockley home last month.

Her mum, 30-year-old Tiffany Rose, collapsed suddenly at home when she had a bad reaction to new medication on May 18.

She told Ava she was feeling unwell, before she suddenly blacked out and collapsed on the floor.

Without hesitation, the youngster called 999 and paramedics rushed to their home.

Ms Rose said: “I was overwhelmed with so many emotions, but I think extremely proud and thankful were at the top.

“She did an incredible job, and I am so, so proud of her and, of course, so thankful.

“It still makes me teary.

“She doesn’t really realise quite how important it was that she behaved so calmly and bravely, so it’s nice that the ambulance crew have recognised that with a certificate.”

After calling 999, Ava gave the operator her mum’s personal details and even told them what her heart rate was by looking at her mum’s Fitbit.

She let the ambulance crew into their flat when they arrived and whereupon the crew discovered that Ava’s mum had low blood pressure and was still dizzy.

As she had to be taken into hospital, her daughter packed a bag for herself with everything she needed and unlocked the her mum’s phone for the crew so they could call her next of kin and the school, as well as finding Ms Rose’s medication.

Ms Rose was brought to Southend’s same-day emergency care unit, where it was determined she was most likely suffering a reaction to her new medication.

One month on, she is doing well, and Ava has been recognised for her actions with a certificate for bravery by the ambulance crew.

Paramedic Jenny White, who attended the incident said: “Ava’s calmness and quick actions allowed us to assess and treat her mum quickly before transferring them to the hospital.

“She demonstrated maturity beyond her age by remaining calm during a stressful situation.

“She should be very proud of how she managed the situation, and we wanted her to know how impressed we were by her.”
