A FED-UP 80-year-old living on Canvey’s retirement village has been left “sick to the stomach” after being hit with an eviction notice and given just three months to move out.

Tom Bird moved to King’s Park Village in June 2008 where he rents a two-bed property.

The housing estate boasts more than 860 homes, with 20 being rented, and a haven for wildlife and an excellent fishing spot.

However, now the owners - Cove Communities - have announced they are moving away from rental properties and the first three of the rental home owners have been slapped with eviction notices.

Mr Bird will now be forced to leave the park after 15 years after he was handed a letter which says bosses have taken the “difficult decision” to sell the remaining rental properties on the grounds.

He said: “I am sick to my stomach. I haven’t slept for two days. I am 80 years old, and I have medical conditions. Therefore, this is an urgent matter.

“I pay them my rent on time, my utility bills and I do as much work as I can on my place.

“Life really sucks sometimes.”

This comes as bosses announced they are ditching rental properties so the park can be “completely owner-occupied” in the long-term.

Out of the 20 rented properties, three have now been handed eviction notices, and the further 17 homes will have to either buy a new property or move out in the next five years.

Another tenant, who lives with their friend and claims they have been moved “four times before”, has also received a letter from the head office stating they have to be removed.

The resident, who has asked not to be named, said: “Twice before when we were told we were moving by letter, my friend had a heart attack due to the shock.

“I, myself, have had cancer seven times. We can’t go through all this again. The upheaval and stress could kill my friend.

“We are both nervous wrecks and can’t settle or concentrate on our daily lives or anything, waiting on tenterhooks for the eviction date.

“When we are evicted, we have nowhere to go. We are both medically retired and cannot afford to pay to go anywhere or for removals. We are in dire straits and worried sick.”
