A GENEROUS schoolboy is set to “push his limits” with a mammoth challenge to fundraise for items for pupils at his school.

Toby Walker, nine, from Hockley, will be taking on a big hike with his village cub troupe to generate money for new resources at his school, Plumberow.

On July 7, they are kicking off their 27-mile walking expedition in the south Essex village, which will be running for three days.

Earlier this week, his mortgage broker mum Shelley Walker, 43, set up a JustGiving page, and has been inundated with generous donations from people.

Within 24 hours, they reached £350 of their £500 target, leaving the little nine-year-old “on cloud nine”.

Mrs Walker said: “We set up the JustGiving page last night, and we can’t believe how much has been raised already.

“He’s so excited but also feeling nervous about doing the hike, but Toby said: ‘When I’m doing the hike, I now have all these people behind me to get it done.’

“We’re so proud of Toby and thankful for those who have donated, and it shows that it has touched the hearts of people.”

Toby got the idea to help with his friends when the school started raising funds for outdoor play equipment.

But he also wanted to set a personal challenge and fulfill the school’s core values.

His mum said: “He thought it would be a good opportunity.

“Some of the school’s core values are for the students to push their limits, to be big hearted and to believe in themselves. He is doing all of these things.

“When the outdoor play equipment fundraiser was happening, he said: ‘Imagine what I could choose to have at the school for everyone to use.’”

This is the first fundraiser for the nine-year-old, and his mum thinks he will carry on helping people in future.
