A MAN standing trial over a Rochford murder allegedly admitted to the crime during a call with his mum just moments after committing the act, a court has heard.

Perry Coulson, 39, of Lesney Gardens, is standing trial after being charged with the murder of his friend Dominic Clark-Ellingford, 33, on November 25, 2022.

Andrew Jackson, prosecuting, revealed from reports that Coulson allegedly admitted to committing the murder moments after the crime.

Mr Jackson said: “At 8am the defendant knocked on a neighbour’s door and asked to use her phone to call his mother.

“The neighbour overheard the defendant say to his mother ‘Something bad happened, I am going to be put in prison, please come straight away’.

“When questioned by the neighbour, the defendant once again admitted guilt saying ‘I killed him, go and look in there the body is there, we had a fight and things went wrong’.”

The jury also heard of reports detailing Coulson’s mental state which consisted of suicidal thoughts.

Mr Jackson added: “The defendant said suicide would be a waste of time and he wanted to kill another person who undermined him.”

Further reports from January 2020 revealed Coulson had more thoughts of “hurting someone”.

In a July 2022 recording of the defendant, he stated he was “angry all the time” and wanted to “either kill himself or someone else” if he didn’t get help The jury also heard about Coulson’s hobby of collecting knives.

Mr Jackson said: “During a raid of the defendant’s flat police officers found two other knives in his bedroom.

“One of them was a very large knife indeed, described as a Rambo-style knife.

“In the defendant’s flat in Rochford, he murdered a young man, Dominic Clark-Ellingford, by stabbing him with a large US Army fighting knife.

“Having carried out the murder the defendant left Mr Clark-Ellingford to die alone in the sitting room of the flat and went outside to hide the knife in the rear of the flats.”
