A luxury steam train trip for passengers with a penchant for history will be setting off from Southend next month.

Steam Dreams is offering another enchanting journey from Shoebury to York on September 23, with an iconic 70000 Britannia locomotive setting off from the station at 5.50am.

The vintage locomotive will stop to pick up passengers at Southend Central at 6am and Barking at 6.50am, before arriving in York at 12.30pm.

Guests will travel in restored vintage carriages with period details reminiscent of a bygone era.

There are three classes of travel including elevated dining led by Executive Chef, Nicholas Allen, in Pullman Style Dining. First Class and Premium Standard seats are also available.

The journey will follow the East Coast Main Line, through Potters Bar and Stevenage to Peterborough, passing Stoke Bank where 4468 Mallard set the world speed record for a steam locomotive in 1938.

Passengers will see Grantham and Doncaster, before the route continues to the stunning cathedral city.
