All occupants were accounted for, and the fire had begun in the loft space.

Residents in the area were urged to keep their windows and doors closed while crews tackled the blaze.

At around 11pm, firefighters had extinguished the fire and remained on site to deal with the hotspots.

Marc Diggory, group manager, said: “We believe the fire started in a bedroom on the top floor of the three-storey property and crews did a fantastic job of stopping it from spreading.

“Crews are extinguishing hotspots, and we hope to scale down the incident and reopen roads in the area soon; thank you to residents for your patience.”

Essex Fire say an investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.
