THE family of a Southend teenager who died after suffering a cardiac arrest on holiday have revealed they hope to set up a foundation in his name.

Jude Harvey died after suffering a “heart episode” when swimming in the sea in Ibiza on July 23.

Now his family are hoping to set up the Jude Harvey Foundation to run carry out heart screenings and secure his legacy.

A fundraiser has also been set up for charity Cardiac Risk in the Young - and they have raised £6,000 already.

Jude’s dad, Gary Harvey, said: “There needs to be more awareness around this, and this will be our purpose to always remember Jude and continue his legacy.

“In the near future we will start the Jude Harvey Foundation and continue his legacy.

“We want to help the charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young, by running screening days too. We want to look at working with some charities that help families with loved that sadly die abroad too, and how to get them home.”

The family also praised the medical team in Ibiza who looked after Jude, as well as those who helped get him home from Ibiza.

Speaking after the fundraiser surpassed its initial goal of £1,000, Gary added: “It is very important to us to learn more and share more information with families with teenagers, including those who are tremendously fit like Jude.

“You think this would never happen to your family. So, we want to raise that awareness and prevent something like this happening to other families.

“Mia, Jude’s stepsister, found this charity as she was looking for what would be right to remember her stepbrother the best way. “The charity has been amazing to us too so far, and they are so supportive and comforting in this terrible time.

“Our family, friends and Jude’s friends have not stop caring for us too, we are extremely grateful.”
