THE iconic Red Arrows have touched down at Southend Airport ahead of a series of air shows.

Plane spotters were treated to the famous red jets as they landed on the runway yesterday evening (August 19).

Bosses were unable to offer tours to aviation fans due to safety precautions.

But that did not stop fans and onlookers from standing at the perimeter fence to catch a glimpse and get some snaps of the aircraft.

For those unable to make it down, a livestream was broadcast on the airport’s Facebook page at 7.45pm on Saturday.

At midday today (August 20), Red Arrows Synchro leader Red 6 James Turner will be answering questions from residents.

It comes as the airport is accommodating RAF aircraft, including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, this week as they gear up to take to the skies at Eastbourne Airshow show today (August 20), Folkestone Airshow, which is also on Sunday, and the Clacton Airshow on August 24 and 25.
