A MAN has been charged with a series of sexual offences and assaults after an investigation by specialist detectives.
Harry Blackhall-Waite, 22, of Cobden Walk, Basildon, has been charged with two counts of rape, attempted rape, intentional strangulation, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage and sending a communication conveying a threatening message.
He was arrested by police in Basildon yesterday following an investigation from the force's Adult Sexual Abuse Investigations Team.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "In June, a report was made to colleagues with Northumbria Police concerning an allegation of rape at an address in Chelmsford.
"Across a subsequent investigation carried out by Essex Police, further allegations of domestic abuse and sexual offending arose.
"Following work from our Adult Sexual Abuse Investigations Team, a man was arrested in Basildon on Saturday August 26.
"He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Monday August 28."
