AN AVID cyclist has revealed the “perils of potholes” after he was thrown over his handlebars and snapped his collarbone.

Adam Jones, from Barling, was cycling on Church Road on Sunday when his wheel buckled after he hit a “hidden pothole” in the road.

The PR consultant was left with “big bloody cuts” as well as dozens of bruises and a broken collarbone.

After the crash, Mr Jones took to Facebook to reveal his injuries and to call for potholes in the area to be repaired. He said: “I was 10 minutes away from my house when my bike came into contact with a small hole in the road; and because of how small it was, I didn’t see it.

“Moments after impact, a lady driving along saw my drinking bottle and me laying on the floor. She quickly got out of her car and offered to let me sit in her car.

“Then, a woman came out of her home and invited me in for a glass of water. I was so overwhelmed by the kindness of these two people.

“However, as I only live around the corner, I decided to cycle back home, which was ridiculously uncomfortable.”

When Mr Jones, who runs Brera-London PR firm, returned home to his wife Tracy, he immediately checked to see if he sustained serious injuries.

He said: “I told Tracy that my shoulder doesn’t feel right and like a bag of spanners, so I went to my GP at Wakering Medical Centre where I was then referred to Southend Hospital for an X-ray.

“The process was incredibly efficient, and I thanked the staff for their help, but this was when I found out I had in fact broken my collarbone.

“Now, I can’t get out on my bike for two months, which is frustrating.”

After Mr Jones took to Facebook about his accident, it was picked up by Roche South ward Conservative councillor Mike Steptoe, who requested details about the location of the crash so he could “put it to Essex Highways in order to sort out the road’s condition”.
