Administrators at PwC have confirmed the locations of Wilko stores that will close next week - including two in south Essex.

The retailer has announced 124 more stores which will shut between Sunday September 17 and Thursday September 21.

This will be after the 90-year-old retailer closes 52 branches across Tuesday and Thursday this week after failing to secure a deal to rescue the stores.

The chain’s remaining stores are all set to shut by early October after administrators failed to secure a deal from any suitor to buy the business.

Here are all the Wilko stores set to close in south Essex and when:

- Basildon, Thursday September 14

- Lakeside, Thurrock, Sunday September 17

- Grays, Tuesday September 19

- Southend, early October

Zelf Hussain, joint administrator at PwC, said today: “Despite the significant and intensive efforts of both ourselves and Putman Investments – the remaining party interested in buying a significant part of the business as a going concern – a transaction could not be progressed due to the inability to reduce central infrastructure costs quickly enough to make a deal commercially viable.

“As with those who have already been given notice of redundancy, we will guide and support those team members impacted over the coming weeks through the redundancy claims process.

“We continue to work with potential buyers for different parts of the business and are confident of completing transactions in the coming days.”
