A MAN has been left with a serious injury after a large brawl near the Southend city centre.

Essex Police were called to Warrior Square, in Southend, at around 6:15pm yesterday evening following reports of a large disturbance involving around eight young men.

A cordon was put in place while officers dealt with the incident, that saw two people arrested.

One man was left with serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital.

Within 30 minutes, officers arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of Grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in custody.

An 18-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Southend yesterday evening.

“Officers were called to Warrior Square at around 6:15pm on Tuesday, September 19, following reports of a large disturbance involving around eight young men.

“Officers arrived quickly and located a man with serious facial injuries. The victim was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life changing.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and a large cordon was put in place last night, which has since been removed.

“Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or have any CCTV or dashcam footage to contact us.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.
