A VILLAGE in Colchester described as "quaint" and "quintessential" has been named as one of the best in the UK, according to a consumer watchdog.

Which? has ranked Dedham 36th on a list comprised of the greatest towns and villages in the country after more than 9,000 members cast their votes.

The survey asked members to rate locations they had visited based on the quality of their food and drink, tourist attractions, shopping and more.

Each of the locations on the list received a Destination Score out of a possible 100 per cent as well as being ranked out of five stars in various categories.

"Admire the Georgian architecture and timber framed buildings as you wander down the High Street.

"At the end you will find the Dedham Arts and Crafts Centre, in an historic converted church. The Centre houses many art treasures all carefully crafted by local artisans."
