A DATE for the return of the much-loved annual Hockley Christmas lights switch-on event this year has been confirmed.

Hockley Parish Council has announced it will take place on Saturday, November 25.

From 3pm, the village will be bursting with holiday cheer once again like in years past as thousands roam around and browse pop-up stalls, feast on mouth-watering juicy burgers, and witness music performances on the pop-up stage.

Before the climax of the event at 6pm, the lights will be turned on and twinkle in the night sky for all to see.

Adrian Eves, Hockley ward Rochford Residents Group councillor, said: “The Hockley Christmas lights switch-on is always a much-loved event for the people of the village, and it’s great it’s happening again this year.

“One of the things Hockley has not got is a place where it can hold events where people can showcase their talents.

“This event allows them to pop-up a stall or perform on the stage for everyone to see, which is fantastic.

“I’m very glad Hockley residents and beyond will be able to come down on November 25 to see the village lights be turned on, and I’m very much looking forward to it.”

The council has also revealed that Hurleys Farm, in Woodham Road, Battlesbridge, has agreed to provide the 2023 Southend Road Christmas tree, which normally stands next to the Shuhag Tandoori Restaurant.

The announcement comes as Southend BID confirmed the city’s Christmas lights switch-on is happening a week earlier on November 18.

From noon onwards, Southend High Street will come alive with a day-long extravaganza featuring a diverse array of performances, special guests, and festive activities.

There will also be an enchanting Christmas trail, where Father Christmas will be making a special appearance to create a truly memorable experience.

The day will also feature a heartwarming festive sing-along, complete with lyrics displayed on a big screen, setting the stage for the grand Christmas lights switch-on.

The evening will culminate in the spectacular finale of the seafront firework displays, marking the beginning of Southend's winter celebrations.
