A court hearing concerning a dispute with the Southend United's energy supplier was adjourned again this morning as a crucial 24 hours over the future of the club begins.

A civil hearing was initially listed for September 19 in Basildon Magistrates’ Court before it was adjourned for today, October 3.

The case was moved to Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court as a debate concerning the stadium, clubhouse and kitchen at Roots Hall was set to take place.

However, the case was adjourned again with no new date provided for the next hearing.

This news comes at a crucial time for the club as Justin Rees and the consortium he is heading are progressing in talks to take over Blues.

Sources close to the club have expressed confidence that a deal between Mr Rees and the club will be agreed following a High Court hearing on Wednesday, October 4.

The Shrimpers are under pressure from HMRC and were warned on a previous visit in August that the club would be in trouble unless the remaining debt of £170,000 was settled by Wednesday’s deadline.

Mr Rees is believed to be having positive talks with club creditors on the situation.

The club has already been docked ten points due to a debt with HMRC meaning another deduction would all but ensure its relegation from the National League.

Blues will host Oxford City at Roots Hall tonight as the fight to stay alive on and off the pitch continues.
