TWO motorcyclists were killed within as many days after being involved in a pair of "very sad" horror crashes in Colchester.

Essex Police officers have launched investigations after two men, both in their 60s, were pronounced dead after being involved in serious smashes.

Officers were first called to reports of a crash in Station Road, Tiptree, at about 10.20pm last Thursday.

The incident involved a motorcycle and a stationary HGV which was parked near to the junction with Francis Close.

The road was closed whilst the force carried out its investigation.

Two days later, on Saturday, officers rushed to the scene of another crash, this time in Dedham Road, Ardleigh.

On this occasion the smash involved a motorcyclist and a car.

All emergency services attended and the road was again closed as officers worked on the scene before recovering both vehicles.

Paul Dundas, Colchester councillor for Tiptree and Conservative group leader said: “Obviously I can’t comment on the specifics due to the ongoing investigation, but my heart goes out to all those involved and family and friends.

“I trust the police will investigate fully, and if any changes on the road layout are needed, they will be discussed and implemented.”

Mr Dundas was also sad to hear of the incident in Ardleigh.

He said: “To hear of two incidents like this in just as many days is very sad, but without knowing the details, it is hard to comment, so we will wait and see.

“For now Tiptree and Ardleigh communities can come together and support one another following two tragic incidents.”

Officers investigating both crashes are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to the incidents to come forward.

Reports can be made on the Essex Police website, through the force’s live chat service or by calling 101.

Residents wishing to make an anonymous report, meanwhile, can contact independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

For the Tiptree crash, reports should quote incident 1392 of October 5, and incident 738 of October 7 for the crash in Ardleigh.
