A STAFF member at an animal rehoming centre was taken to hospital following an incident with a dog.

The incident in Nevendon Road, Wickford, saw a canine carer at Dogs Trust Rehoming centre suffer several injuries at around 4.41pm on October 5.

The carer was attacked by a dog named Klay who was allegedly an XL Bully put down after the incident.

Klay was put down following discussions between Dogs Trust leadership and the staff member was discharged after recovering from the attack.

A spokesman for Dogs Trust said: Dogs Trust are incredibly sad to report on an incident which occurred on Thursday 5th October, involving a Canine Carer and Klay, a dog at Dogs Trust Basildon. 

After the incident, an ambulance was immediately called, and the Canine Carer was taken to hospital with several injuries. He has subsequently been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.  

After discussions with the Dogs Trust Veterinary and Behaviour teams, Klay was put to sleep.  

The safety and welfare of staff, volunteers, and all members of the public who come into contact with the charity is of the utmost concern. Dogs Trust is conducting a full investigation of the circumstances leading up to and surrounding this incident and we are in contact with the Canine Carer who we offer our best wishes and support.’
