SOUTHEND-BORN actress Lindsay Lucas-Bartlett will lay her life bare in a show set to hit off-Broadway next month.

Trust me, I’m from Essex will showcase on November 17 at United Solo Festival at Theatre Row in New York.

It will delve into the Essex girl stereotype, growing up in an abusive home, navigating the aftermath of a sexual assault and suicide in her family and finally realizing her dream of living in Los Angeles and creating a new life.

“I start out as my teenage self, greeting the audience members and once everyone is situated I give them a quick master class on Essex, the places, Southend, the Essex girl stereotype, lingo we used to use back when I was a teenager,” said Lindsay.

The show won the Hollywood Encore Producers Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. It is a mixture of light humour, music, dance and also serious topics.

“I go into depth about growing up in an abusive household, something I didn’t open up about until I was in my early twenties and still, to a very select few people,” said Lindsay, who started performing at the Palace Theatre Saturday school when she was seven.

“I talk about being dyslexic and not knowing until I was doing my Masters, but I was called stupid by various people growing up.”

There were heart wrenching scenes detailing the suicide of Lindsay’s brother.

“It was tough and it was messy and we spent the next part of the rehearsal crying as I retold stories of my brother Jamie and his addiction to alcohol and drugs that lead to his eventual suicide at the age of 25.”

It was while Lindsay was at drama school in London when she was sexually assaulted. Her friend, Katie suggested she come on a trip to Los Angeles with her.

“I needed to get out of London and nowhere was far enough away so I jumped at the chance to go to LA with her. I felt an instant pull as soon as I got off of that airplane, I knew this is where I wanted to land and build my future.”
