A food writer and journalist from Southend has teamed up with electrical retailer Currys to launch affordable air fryer recipes...but some social media users have claimed one is "dangerous".

Currys has teamed up with Jack Monroe to provide shoppers with affordable Tefal air fryer and pressure cooker recipes.

The Southend writer is known for campaigning on issues around poverty and hunger relief. She initially became well-known when one of her A Girl Called Jack blog posts went viral.

While the recipes have been hailed as being able to save customers dozens on energy bills, a number of social media users have claimed one of the recipes' steps is dangerous.

It reads: "In the smaller fry basket, remove the fry tray – carefully as it will be hot and measure in the rice, crumble over your stock cubes, and pour over your boiling water."

An X - formerly Twitter - user posted: "As someone who accidentally put water in their Ninja when it was on air fry…do not follow Jack Monroe’s advice to put water in your air fryer to make soup. Does nobody check her recipes before publishing?"

Another claimed: "I also asked Curry’s myself if it’s safe to put 3 mugs of boiling water in an air fryer. They strongly advise you not to follow Jack Monroe’s recipe as it is dangerous."

While most experts say it is okay to add small amounts of water to your air fryer in some instances, it is important to read the appliance manual beforehand as they claim adding water can be dangerous and cause damage to the appliance.

One user added: "Eager to try out one of Jack Monroe's air fryer recipes, I thought it best to contact Currys tech support before adding 3 mugs of water to my new Ninja and unfortunately I have to report that their advice is DONT."

The recipes remain on Currys' website and neither the retailer nor Tefal have released official statements on the safety of the instructions.
