The parents of a teenager who died in south Essex have paid tribute to him after police launched a murder investigation.

Police officers were called to an incident at an address close to New Road, Grays, shortly after 3.40am on Friday October 6. Upon arrival, they found a disturbance had taken place and a man had sustained a serious injury.

Despite the efforts of medics, 19-year-old Ashton Rowbotham sadly died at the scene.

Ashton’s parents said: “Our heart is breaking. You are loved so much. You will always be with us.”

A murder probe was launched by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate who continue to work hard to establish the circumstances around this incident.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder on October 6. A second 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary on October 7.

A 31-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary on October 8.

All four have been bailed until December 27.

Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said: “As our investigation into Ashton’s death continues we would like to reiterate that we believe this is an isolated incident, and appreciate this will be a challenging time for the community in Grays.

“I would continue to encourage anyone with information to come forward to officers who are supporting the community with high-visibility patrols today and speak to us.”
