An arrest has been made after it was reported a gang of thugs entered a Benfleet home and attacked an occupant.

Police were called to reports of an ongoing incident at a home in Kimberley Road, Benfleet, shortly before 7.10pm last night.

It was reported three men entered an address and assaulted an occupant.

Officers were on the scene by 7.20pm, safeguarding the victim and carrying out enquiries to locate the suspects.

Later that night officers made an arrest.

A 38-year-old man, from Leigh, remains in custody and is being questioned on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Essex Police's investigation into this incident is ongoing and the force is continuing to appeal for information.
