Drivers are  facing delays of up to an hour on a major Essex road after "overrunning roadworks" this morning.

About four miles of congestion remains in place on the A12 Colchester-bound due to the ongoing closure within junction 25 in Marks Tey.

The A12 in Essex was closed northbound between junction 24 and junction 25 this morning due to planned works overrunning their agreed end time of 6am.

According to National Highways, this was due to an issue with the tarmac setting. The road was expected to open by 7.30am at the earliest.

The carriageway was later closed northbound within junction 25

A National Highways spokesman warned: "Please plan ahead of your journey if you're travelling in the area this afternoon."
