A man sustained stab wounds and another was allegedly punched repeatedly during a serious attack near a south Essex pub.

Police were called to Wharf Road, outside The Wharf Pub, shortly after midnight on Sunday following reports of two men being seriously assaulted.  

One man was reportedly punched several times and another man sustained stab wounds to his body.

They were taken to hospital and their injuries are described as serious, but not believed to be life-threatening.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Enquiries remain ongoing and investigating officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any further information to contact us.

"Please quote incident number 27 of 5 November when contacting us.
