These fantastic photos show the day The Shadows came to Canvey.

Members of the legendary rock group including lead guitarist Hank Marvin, can be seen having fun on the island back in April of 1967.

The group were at Canvey Point to make a publicity film to push their new record release Maroc 7 and Bombay Duck.

Actress Lynn Waller was part of the cast and dressed up as ‘Bombay Duck’ to be ‘shot at’ by the Shadows who can be seen holding double barrelled shotguns.

Of course the only kind of shooting that actually took place was the filming kind.

The location of Canvey Point, next to an old barge near to the yacht club, was chosen because one of the cameramen for the Shadows film unit had spent time on holiday on Canvey. He remembered the marshes and raised the idea to use it as the landscape for the film. The band obviously agreed.

The Shadows dominated the British popular music charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s, in the pre-Beatles era. They served as the backing band for Cliff Richard from 1958 to 1968, and have joined him for several reunion tours since.

Their biggest hits include Apache, Man of Mystery and Wonderful Land.
