TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of a string of offences following a pursuit by police officers.
Police were alerted to a car near to the junction of the A130 and A1245 at 6.20pm on Saturday, November 11, which was linked to a theft from a shop and threats made to staff.
The car failed to stop for them and a pursuit was authorised which went through Galleywood and Stock before being brought to a stop in Miles Gray Road in Basildon.
Officers managed to use a tactic which saw the car ‘boxed in’ by police vehicles.
A 41-year-old man from Laindon and a 48-year-old man from Basildon were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, and theft from a shop.
The 41-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and drug driving, while the 48-year-old has also been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.
They are both still in custody.
Chief Insp Paul Hogben said: “The officers involved in this incident showed a great deal of tenacity, determination and skill to pursue and stop this vehicle, and detain those inside.
“They did it in challenging circumstances and ensuring no member of the public was harmed.
“Two men are now in custody and the linked investigations are able to be progressed.”
