Drivers have been warned a number of roads across Southend are set to be closed this month.

Burges Road in Thorpe Bay, which is close to the seafront, will be shut at its junction with Maplin Way from 8am tomorrow until 5pm on December 12.

Cadent will be carrying out essential gas maintenance in the road to replace old iron gas mains with more durable plastic pipes. 

The alternative route will be via Maplin Way, Johnstone Road and Dungannon Drive and vice versa.


Anerley Road will be closed at its junction with Hamlet Court Road in Westcliff from 7pm until 11pm on November 20 while Anglian Water replace a frame and cover.

The alternative route will be via Anerley Road, Valkyrie Road, Canewdon Road and vice versa.


Sandleigh Road is set to shut at its junction with Leigh Road from 9.30am to 3.30pm on November 15. The alternative route will be via Leigh Road and London Road and vice versa.

Parking, waiting, stopping, loading and unloading will also be prohibited on Leigh Road from Mount Avenue to outside Chalkwell Grange nursing home opposite Fernleigh Drive during this time.

The closure will be in place while BT underground works take place.


Rochford Road will be closed from its junction with Hornby Avenue to its junction with Feeches Road from November 14 to 18.

Kings Road will also be closed from its junction with Leigh Road to its junction with Old Leigh Road during these dates.

These closures will be in place while City Fibre completes works.


Trinity Avenue, including the right hand turn lane in Cambridge Road, will be closed from Cambridge Road to its junction with Westcliff Parade from November 16 to 17.

Marlborough Highways, on behalf of Southend Council, will be carrying out carriageway resurfacing works.
