SOUTHEND Mosque has been the target of a racist attack after an offensive slur was graffitied onto the brick wall outside the building.
The West Road, Westcliff, premises had “F**k off, [followed by a racial slur] written in pink paint.
The hate crime was found this morning, and Aston Line, Westborough ward Labour councillor, is “horrified” after learning what happened.
He said: “I was horrified and deeply saddened to see this repugnant racist graffiti painted onto Southend Mosque.
“Our Jewish and Muslim communities have seen a significant spike in hate crime since the October 7 terrorist attacks.
“Our city is proudly home to many diverse communities, and we must all stand united against all forms of hate.
“There is no place for it in Southend.”
As a result, Mr Line adds he is going to “console the community and help clean it up”.
The Echo has reached out to Southend Mosque.
