A LEIGH burger bar has been given the green light to construct a chic new rooftop terrace offering diners sweeping views of the Thames Estuary.
Henry Burgers, sitting in a prime-spot in Leigh's Broadway, is a burger and cocktail bar opened in 2014 which has become increasingly popular ever since.
Southend Council has now given approval to plans to allow owners to create a first-floor rear extension and a second floor extension to form additional restaurant and storage space, alongside a roof top terrace.
It is hoping to create "a high-quality dining experience"
Residents have expressed excitement about the plans, with hopes that Henry Burgers new dining experience will entice people to the area.
Leigh mum, Carolyne Goodall, said: "I've not dined there recently, but it is somewhere for a quick evening meal and not an evening at the moment, I find it quite uncomfortable actually because they used to serve on these benches.
"My older children definitely go there, and I think it would work and be good for the area," Mrs Goodall, adding that in the "food mecca" of Leigh, it has a lot of competition for attention and in her own age demographic.
"I struggle to think for somewhere in Leigh like that, there's places in leigh that have trendy upstairs bars and outside bits but there's not many like that, with rooftop terraces," Mrs Goodall said.
Southend councillor responsible for economic growth and investment, Daniel Nelson, said: "It is fantastic they found a way to keep the business going and it sounds like a unique business opportunity that can be really excellent for the local area and other local restaurants."
According to the Henry Burgers website, the idea was to create a food and bar culture reaching from Brooklyn to the Balearics.
The mission of the eatery was to provide quality produce and a different experience.
The Echo reached out for comment on the new plans from Henry Burgers but did not receive a response.
