WORK on Basildon’s new Starbucks is underway and an opening date has been hinted at.

Yorkshire-based electrician firm KM Sparks have moved into unit four of St Hilary’s retail park, in Miles Gray Road, to sort power, data and mechanical works.

The team are now working hard to achieve the December 20 handover date, with the two-storey café believed to be opening the following day.

It comes as the American coffee giant was granted planning permission by Basildon Council at the retail park back in May.

A spokesman for KM Sparks said: “The job hands over on December 20 and believe it opens on the 21.

“There will be two floors – the main serving area downstairs, and toilets are more seating upstairs.”

Once open, the new coffee shop will boast 96 inside seats plus 12 outside.

When contacted for a comment on an update of the site, a spokesman for Starbucks remained tight lipped.

The comment said: “We are always looking for new locations and opportunities to bring the Starbucks experience to customers in the UK but at this time, we have no updates to share about plans in Basildon.”

Starbucks will join German supermarket Lidl, bakery titan Greggs, Tile and Bathroom Mountain, kitchen store Magnet and Lok’nStore self-storage.
