TONIGHT is Canvey’s turn to switch on their dazzling Christmas lights.

Here is everything you need to know about the event.

Furtherwick Road from the junction of Foksville Road to Waarden Road has been closed from 7am and will remain shut until 7.30pm.

Access for residents living in Lionel Road will be from Convent Road and Fairlop Avenue as the top of Lionel Road into Furtherwick Road will be temporarily closed.

Buses will be diverted, and taxis will be available from the top of Lionel Road. There will also be a pickup and drop off point in the Knightswick Shopping Centre car park.

The free entry event returns to the top of the High Street with festivities for all the family to enjoy from 12pm to 5pm, including an ice rink, Christmas market, fun fair rides and craft activities.

There will be an assortment of Christmas stalls, funfair rides, Children’s activities, such as storytelling, and a giant inflatable snow globe for some “amazing, seasonal pictures”.

This year, Canvey Town Council arranged for the return of the free ice-skating rink, which is placed in Furtherwick Road.

Inside the Knightswick Shopping Centre, it has been transformed into Santa’s grotto, where children can receive gifts.

The lights will officially be turned on at 4pm.

Elaine Harvey, town mayor, said: “The Town Council is very excited about this upcoming Christmas Event, and very pleased to yet again be offering so many free activities to families.

"We look forward to seeing many of you there to get into the festive Christmas spirit and support our local businesses.”
