The victim came down to answer but Danny, 36, broke in and took hold of the man by his throat with a Stanley knife pointed at his face.

A witness, the victim’s sister, saw the men breaking in and went over to try and diffuse the incident.

Another man who came to see the witnesses’ sister went to the home where he was punched by Jordan, 32.

The two began fighting and it was accepted Jordan ‘got the better of the man’ punching him several times in the head causing injuries.

Leigh brothers Jordan and Danny Watkins jailed for burglary and brawl

The brothers fled the scene and the man was taken to Southend Hospital, Danny and Jordan were arrested on May 25.

A short trial began on December 4 before the prosecution and defence reached an agreement resulting in the men being sentenced on Wednesday, December 6 in Basildon Crown Court.

Toby Roseman, prosecuting, said: “Jordan Watkins has pleaded guilty to the assault and it is accepted the altercation started with both men punching each other and falling to the ground.

“The defendant accepts he quickly got the better of the man and continued punching him whilst wearing a golden ring.”

The brothers were re-arraigned in court with Danny pleading guilty to burglary and Jordan pleading guilty to wounding with intent.

Barristers Ruth Reid and Simon Connolly represented Danny and Jordan respectively.

Miss Reid said: “Mr Watkins did not physically harm or intend to harm anyone but of course he admits he should not have acted in that way.

“He said there was a level of provocation hence why they went there with threatening messages sent towards his family.”

Mr Connolly added: “It is fortunate that there Is no consequential harm caused as a result of this incident.

“The saddest thing for Mr Watkins is the effect this will have on his children with one child being devastated by his sudden absence.

“He says he has hated being in custody and has no intention of returning there.”

Danny was sentenced to four and a half years in prison whilst Jordan was jailed for three years and seven months.
